App Onboarding Process

1- Project Objectives

Developed an intuitive and user-friendly onboarding process for the care management app.

Ensured seamless integration with existing healthcare systems.

Enhanced user engagement and satisfaction through innovative design.

Research

2- The Discovery (Understanding the Problem)

The app struggles with user engagement, especially during onboarding and daily check-ins.

UX research shows that users feel the onboarding is unclear and overwhelming, causing incomplete profiles and less personalization. Also, the daily check-in process is not intuitive or gamified, making consistent user engagement challenging.

These issues lead to lower user retention and engagement, emphasizing the need for a more streamlined, user-friendly approach to onboarding and daily interactions.

3- Competitive Analysis

Onboarding Completion:
Fabulous excels at making onboarding feel motivational and light, using behavioral psychology and storytelling. However, Noom and Headspace may be better at offering in-depth personalization early on in the process.

Gamification and Habit Tracking:
Fabulous is one of the best apps for gamifying habit-building.

Apps like Noom and Calm don’t focus as much on streaks or motivational journeys.

Personalized Content:
Noom may offer more personalized emotional health content.

Science-Backed Approaches:
Noom and Fabulous builds its routines around science-backed meth

4-Understanding User Challenges

Hanna Said:

Pain Points
I just can’t seem to find the content that’s actually relevant to me. It feels like I’m constantly scrolling through things that don’t fit my needs.

Goals
Hanna wants personalized recommendations that match her interests and needs, boosting her engagement and satisfaction.

Nathan Said:

Pain Points
I’m overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice. I’m tired of guessing and just want solutions that are backed by science and actually work for me.

Goals
Nathan represents individuals who are seeking evidence-based, reliable wellness advice, emphasizing a critical aspect of empathy mapping.

Hingirid Said:

Pain Points
I really need a way to track my ups and downs, especially with my PMS. It’s hard to stay on top of my mood swings and symptoms, and the app doesn’t give me enough tools to monitor these changes over time.

Goals
The ability to track progress effectively is a key feature she values. This indicates a need for improved tracking tools that meet her requirements.

5- Key Insights from User Research

Users highly value personalization in wellness solutions, seeking tailored advice that aligns with their unique needs and preferences.

Effective Tracking Features

There is a strong demand for comprehensive tracking tools that enable individuals to monitor their wellness journey effectively.

Trustworthy, Science-Based Advice

Trust and credibility are paramount, with users looking for wellness advice grounded in scientific research and evidence.

Introducing Gamification

Design challenges that encourage daily app usage.

Track user progress with milestones and rewards.

Create social challenges to foster community and competition among users.

6- Ideation Method

  • Brainstorm key pain points like personalization, user engagement, and onboarding complexity.

  • Mind Mapping to ensure content is categorized by Mind, Body, and Women’s Health.

  • User Journey Mapping to show where the app can engage users at critical moments (e.g., mood check-ins, tracking wellness goals, and receiving tailored content).

7- Wireframing

8- Onboarding Flow

9- High-fidelity

After initial ideation and low-fidelity wireframing, I developed high-fidelity prototypes using Figma. These prototypes included final visual elements such as color schemes, typography, and detailed UI components, closely resembling the intended final product. The goal at this stage was to create a near-realistic version of the app for testing purposes.

Usability Testing:

With the high-fidelity prototypes in place, we conducted usability testing sessions with current users to observe how they interacted with the app. We aimed to understand if the new design improved ease of use and engagement. These testing sessions revealed several insights:

  • Users found the new onboarding process more intuitive and engaging.

  • The navigation within the app felt more seamless, and users could quickly access relevant content.

  • Users reported that the daily check-ins were easier to complete, with clear prompts guiding them through their journey.

Testing also uncovered a few areas for refinement, such as:

  • Users requested more personalized notifications to remind them to log in and complete their daily check-ins.

  • Some users felt that while the new layout was visually appealing, they needed clearer visual indicators to track their progress.

Key Outcomes:

  • App usage increased by 70% after the high-fidelity design and subsequent refinements were implemented.

  • Onboarding completion rates rose, leading to more personalized experiences for users.

  • Daily engagement increased through the introduction of gamified elements and personalized notifications.

  • User satisfaction improved, with positive feedback on the enhanced tracking and personalized content features.
